Substantive Editing –
clarify or reorganize the content and structure of the manuscript / heavy edit
- provide a detailed edit of your
manuscript
- check the flow of the text, its
organization, continuity, style, structure, accuracy and content
- suggest or provide clearer explanations,
anecdotes and analogies
- make sure the manuscript is true
to its outline
- clarify meaning, smooth language, eliminate jargon
- reorganize paragraphs, sections
or chapters as appropriate
- revise any or all aspects of the
text to improve its presentation
- consider all aspects of the manuscript
- undertake extensive rewriting as
appropriate and with the author’s assistance
An additional edit may be required after a substantive
edit, depending on the extent and complexity of the work. This will only be
carried out with the author’s permission.
